Google is set to buy the popular photo sharing service Instagram for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
The acquisition will create a standalone brand and separate from Google Photos, which was spun off from the photo-sharing service last year.
Instagram is a free service that allows users to post photos and videos.
Google said it plans to keep its own content platform, Google Photos.
However, Instagram will be available to all Google users, not just its paying users.
The deal, which is expected for a formal announcement in the third quarter, is expected by some analysts to close at the end of the year.
